We stopped by the Mccain Palin bus for a little while to see Richard Petty speak, and to see a few of the other NASCAR stars. It was pretty cool to see them up close, they seemed like pretty friendly guys for being around the press all day. I fit right into the sea of cameras with my D300 and 18-200mm VR lens.

The crowds were amazingly large. I'd have to say there were well over 150,000 people within a square mile of the track. Crossing the street was like a scene out of Lord of the Rings.

We stopped in front of the grandstands to get a few pictures.

Soon we were back at the truck meeting with more of the locals before we entered the race. The pictures speak for themselves about the types of people that attend these events.
